Joey Kramer Wins
Caution Filled Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Event at Richmond
Raceway
Bardstown, KY-May 24,
2008- The Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series Open Wheel Modified
division presented by Graphic Impressions contested its fifth event of
2008 on Saturday evening at the Mark and Tommy Trimble promoted
Richmond Raceway and
Joey Kramer of Hanover,
IN scored his third victory of the season with the “BoB Mod Sqaud” for
2008.
Kramer’s victory at the
“Action Track” was his 16th career series checkered flag and again
came aboard the Claudette Kramer owned FOX Custom Cabinets/Wild’s
Restoration Service/Larry’s Truck Service/Hill’s Historic
Painting/Bright Beginnings Child Care/SuperATV.com sponsored #77
Lightning Chassis powered by a Bullock by Kramer Race Engine. The
winner’s entry also receives product support from PBM Performance
Products, AFCO Racing Products, NAPA, and Valvoline.
Don Adams of London, KY
would finish second after winning at Ponderosa Speedway the night
before in the Car Star/Fast Company sponsored Lightning Chassis unit,
with Brandon Green of Walton, KY taking the third position in the
Complete Auto Care/Klassic Lawncare sponsored Bandit. Delane Browning
of East Bernstadt, KY would earn the fourth spot at the checkered flag
in his Browning Trucking sponsored Lightning Chassis, while Robbie
Gullion of Charlestown, IN would round out the top five in the Dixon
Racing Supply/BG Automotive sponsored Lightning Chassis mount.
Kramer would take the
lead at the start of the race, with Brandon Green, Delane Browning,
Walt Mayabb, and Russ Gabbert giving chase. After the first two
caution periods, Kramer would still maintain the lead, with Browning
now second, Green third, Gabbert now fourth, and Don Adams would make
his way into the top five on lap 4. A quartet of caution flags would
fly with 7 laps complete, with one of those caution periods seeing
second place Browning pit for a flat right rear tire and return to
action at the rear of the pack. This restart would see Green trailing
race leader Kramer, with Adams would be third, with Gabbert and Robbie
Gullion now tussling for fourth. After another caution on lap 9,
Skylar Marlar would challenge Gullion for fifth and take the spot on
lap 11.
The next caution waved
on lap 12 and Gullion would drive back by Marlar for fifth, while
Kramer continued to maintain the top position. Two more caution
periods would take place on laps 14 and 17, allowing Browning to
charge back through the field and make his way back into the top five
on lap 19. After another caution on lap 20, Browning would sneak past
Gabbert for fourth, with Gullion sliding into the five slot again one
circuit later on lap 21.
There would be two
more caution periods during the final ten laps of the race on laps 24
and 25, by Kramer would not be denied and would take the checkered
flag first, followed by Don Adams, who passed Brandon Green in the
late going to take second, with Browning and Gullion completing the
top five. The remainder of the top ten would be Travis Preston, Wayne
James, Kevin Mayabb, Doug Webb, and Russ Gabbert.
In preliminary action,
Don Adams was top qualifier among 22 entries with a lap time of 16.134
seconds. A trio of qualifying heat events would be contested with
those checkered flags falling to Walt Mayabb, Joey Kramer, and Brandon
Green.
