 LEXINGTON,
KY -- For the first time in the existence of the series, the
2006 NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Open Wheel Modified
Champion will "Cruise with the Champions".
The series is happy to announce that, in addition to the
first-place paycheck at the season-ending NARA Battle of the
Bluegrass Open Wheel Modified Series banquet, the Series
Champion will set sail on the popular Cruise with the
Champions group next January.
Cruise with the Champions is a unique experience in which
the Champions from various racing series throughout the
country journey on a seven-day cruise from January 7th to
January 14th. In addition, race fans from across the
country have the opportunity to travel on the cruise, while
meeting their favorite drivers on a relaxing winter
vacation. The 2007 Cruise with the Champions trip will
leave from Miami, FL and visit the popular vacation islands
of San Juan, St. Maartan, and St. Thomas. The
popularity of Cruise with the Champions has exploded within
the last several years, and 2007 will mark the 13th voyage
of the annual trip.
The NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Open Wheel Modified Series
will begin its twelve-race 2006 season this Saturday, April
22nd at the Harold Hardgrove-promoted Lake Cumberland
Speedway. In the series' only visit to Lake Cumberland
in 2005, Joe David Turner won in thrilling fashion, narrowly
edging out Jimmy Payne. With the improvements that
have been made to the 3/8-mile facility during the
off-season, the April 22nd event is sure to be an exciting
show with plenty of side-by-side racing action.
A complete program is planned for the BoB "Mod
Squad" with Racing Optics Time Trials, Heats Races,
B-Mains, and the Vault 30 A-Main. Gates are slated to
open at 2pm with Hot Laps scheduled for 6pm and Racing at
7pm.
Hanover, IN native Joey Kramer is the defending NARA Battle
of the Bluegrass Open Wheel Modified Series Champion while
Columbia, KY's Kelly Warren won the inaugural series title
in 2004.
