Battle of the Bluegrass - April 24, 2006
Tommy Bailey Bags Lake Cumberland Speedway NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Series Season Opener

Burnside, KY- Tommy Bailey of Corbin, KY parked his #11 Lightning Chassis mount in victory lane at the conclusion of the Vault 30 at Lake Cumberland Speedway in the opening event of the 2006 season for the NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Series.

Don Adams and Jimmy Payne would bring the 20 car starting field to the green flag, with Adams taking the lead, with Payne in hot pursuit.  The first of six cautions would fly on lap 4 as Jason Wheatley would slow in turn four.  The restart would still have Adams at the point, with Payne and Tommy Bailey now in the chase.

Caution would fly again on lap 9 as Mark Walters would stall his entry in turn two.  After two more green flag circuits, the largest tangle of the evening would take place on the front chute as Delane Browing, J.J. Patterson, and Joe Turner would wreck, with Turner and Browning being finished for the night.

The attempted restart would be voided after Dustin Linville made contact with Joey Kramer and Linville rolling slowly to a stop in turn four and going pitside.  The next attempted restart would also be called back after Wheatley would bring out his second caution of the evening after stopping and retiring his mount for the night.  The restart would see Payne turn the heat up on Adams and take the lead on lap 13, with Bailey joining the Payne and Adams duel.

The final caution of the race would fly on lap 16 for a stalled Jay Mobley in turn four.   This final restart would see Bailey grab the lead on lap 17, only to lose the lead back to Payne on the next circuit.  Payne and Bailey would then settle into a fast side-by-side battle for the lead, while defending series champion Kramer would pressure Adams for third.  Bailey would make his winning pass for the lead on Payne on lap 28 and hold on the final two laps to take his first NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Series victory.

Trailing Bailey at the finish would be Payne, Kramer, Adams, and Victor Lee.  The remainder of the top ten would be Tim Moore, Kelly Warren, Adam Gootee, Stanley Donahoo, and Cale Coffey.

The first event of the 2006 season for the NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Series would draw 31 entries representing five states.  Dustin Linville would top Racing Optics time trials with a 14.794 second lap.  Heat race checkered flags would go Linville, Don Adams, and Jimmy Payne.  The B-main would fall to Stanley Donahoo, with series provisional starting spots going to Russ Gabbert and Greg Payne.

The next race for the NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Series will take place on Saturday night, May 20, at Richmond Raceway in Richmond, Kentucky.
